Applied Mechanics Co-op · August–December 2024
Copeland
Mechanical test development from fixture and instrumentation design through data acquisition, analysis, and formal reporting.
Scope
Independently owned 9 mechanical test programs end-to-end across applied mechanics and reliability work.
Clamp-load measurement
Developed a capacitor-based clamp-load measurement approach for rust-preventative evaluation, calibrated it against a 10-kip vertical MTS, and used LabVIEW to acquire relevant data.
Torque-to-yield testing
Tested new and existing DIN rail end clamps to failure, processed torque-versus-angle data in Python, extracted yield torque, and used statistical comparison to evaluate performance.
Solenoid force testing
Developed a test procedure for a two-stage solenoid valve using a load cell and laser displacement measurement, with LabVIEW acquisition and force-displacement analysis.
Result
Delivered new test procedures, analysis code, and validated measurement approaches that supported design and reliability decisions.
